Open Bangla Keyboard With Multiple Layout

Open Bangla Keyboard is open source project for those users who wants to write Bangla in your pc / laptop in Linux Operating System. If you use Linux Operating system like Debian, Ubuntu , Linux Mint, Arch Linux, or Any Debian Based distribution , You can use Open Bangla Keyboard easily.

Most of the Bangali Users uses Avro Keyboard in Linux OS for writing Bangla. But Open Bangla Keyboard makes an opportunity to use multiple layout in same platform. As an Open Source project , people around the world can use this Open Bangla Keyboard for their daily Bangla writings and this Open Bangla Keyboard comes handy at the same time to change your preferred layout.

Currently Debian Package .deb only supports by Open Bangla Keyboard.

Compilling Open Bangla Keyboard

Build & Install procedures

OpenBangla Keyboard currently needs following libraries and binaries

  • GNU GCC, G++ compiler or Clang
  • GNU Make or Ninja
  • CMake
  • Qt 5.5 or later
  • iBus development library

On a Ubuntu/Debian system you can easily install them like this

sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake libibus-1.0-dev qt5-default qtdeclarative5-dev

On a Fedora system you can easily install them like this

sudo dnf install @buildsys-build cmake qt5-qtdeclarative-devel ibus-devel

On a Arch Linux / Arch Based system you can easily install them like this

sudo pacman -Sy base-devel cmake qt5-base qtdeclarative libibus

After you have installed required libraries and binaries. Clone this repository and change the directory to the cloned folder and issue the commands:

mkdir build && cd build
cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX='/usr'
make
sudo make install

Use iBus UI or run ibus-setup to add Open Bangla Keyboard. You can get help on adding Open Bangla Keyboard in Text entry settings in this page
